OVERVIEW

We believe content is a powerful tool to solve business problems through creativity, innovation and connection. The Director of Photography/Video is an integral team member, helping bring that vision to life across clients, internal and external productions. The DP has strong technical proficiency and is responsible for the testing and implementation of camera, lighting, sound, and video capture equipment. The DP also supervises and directs crew during on-location and in-studio shoots. In collaboration with Creation partners, the DP develops visual style and determines technical requirements for video productions. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise for both still photography and video shoots and can demonstrate creative work in a wide range of styles. The DP will work alongside Creation colleagues to create content across a spectrum from longform storytelling to short social media content, to product photography and tabletop shoots. The DP has a strong creative point of view and also the ability to work collaboratively within a creative group of makers to complete projects together.

REQUIREMENTS

Degree in Film, Art or Photography a plus.

Technical proficiency with high end cinema cameras, stabilization systems, and lenses.

Thorough understanding of lighting techniques, light colour, shade and manipulation.

2-3 years experience as a DP.

Expert knowledge of camera systems (ARRI, RED, etc) and lighting techniques.

Experience leading crews of various sizes (please specify in application)

Excellent organization and time management; able to prioritize work effectively and efficiently with tight deadlines.

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

Attention to detail, demonstrates a high degree of accuracy and consistency.

Self-starter with an ability to work autonomously.

Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud programs. (Premiere, Audition, After Effects, Media Encoder, Photoshop, and Illustrator)

A reel of visual work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Working gracefully under pressure in a deadline driven environment.

Developing a video’s visual style.

Determining lighting requirements on set and in studio.

Deciding on the best camera angles and frames for scenes.

Testing and implementation of on-set and in-studio lighting, camera, sound, and capture equipment.

Controlling natural and artificial lighting conditions.

Determining elements such as filters, shutter angles, focus, depth of field, and camera distance.

Editorial Capabilities a plus:

Editing visual elements in post production.

Incorporating music, voice over, graphics, and effects.

Creating rough and final cuts.

Ensuring logical sequencing and smooth running.

Supervising the edit of raw material by multiple editors.

Determining best practices for editors to align with an intended visual style.

Determining best practices for file organization and backup.

Ensuring consistency of edited video material between courses.

Continuously discovering and implementing new editing technologies and industry best practices to maximize efficiency.

Supervising a camera crew and directing camera movement.
