We are seeking an innovative and strategic AI Leader to join our news organization in the new role of Director, AI Innovation. This role will be pivotal in enhancing newsroom workflows, editorial decision-making, and consumer-facing products through the effective integration of artificial intelligence. This role demands deep expertise in editorial operations – someone who can bridge the highest journalistic principles with breakthrough AI-based solutions. This role will champion AI as an empowering catalyst for the newsroom, expanding the breadth and depth of CNN’s tools and offerings while safeguarding our commitment to editorial integrity.
Specifically, this role will lead efforts to develop smart, sustainable, and high-impact use cases and innovations of AI across CNN Worldwide. This position will be responsible for leading the AI efforts across all newsgathering and editorial departments in the utilization of, safeguarding, and informing monetization opportunities of AI.
Your Role Accountabilities…
- Enhanced Editorial Decision-Making: Understand editorial and journalistic tenants to partner with the organization in developing impactful AI utilization frameworks to analyze data and provide actionable insights that empower editorial teams to make smarter, more informed decisions.
- Development of AI Tools: Lead initiatives to identify opportunities to transform and innovate workflows by implementing AI-driven solutions. Identify and deploy advanced tools that elevate workflows across the organization in understanding the latest AI use-cases, how to develop those capabilities, and partnering closely with peer stakeholders in Editorial, Programming, Digital Products & Services, and Newsgathering to develop shared strategies for integration.
- Implementation & Adoption: Responsible for the integration of new AI tools, processes, or capabilities into the newsroom and editorial workflows. Develop measurable metrics to monitor progress and output from the teams to inform progress and where interventions may be needed. Regularly report out to leadership and stakeholders.
- Consumer-Facing Integrations & Enhancements: Work as a Center of Excellence and domain expert across the organization to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and teams to develop AI-enhanced consumer-facing solutions that drive business goals and power strategic execution.
- Business Partnership: Serve as a partner to the business functions, understanding data and AI insights and how they inform monetization strategies to improve overall financial performance. Advise and influence on partnership opportunities where editorial issues or questions are relevant, providing a holistic and deeply informed view on trade-offs to steer analysis of the opportunity and inform potential go-to-market conversations and negotiations.
- Monetization Innovation: POC for partnerships and Business Development teams to develop monetization strategies connected to our content and existing library that can be powered through effectively leveraging AI (archival footage, subscriber-driven offerings, etc.).
- Thought Leadership and Education: Stay at the forefront of AI developments in the media industry. Educate leadership on trends and innovations, partnering with the transformation team to promote understanding and adoption of AI across the organization.
- Journalistic Standards of Excellence: Uphold CNN’s editorial standards, ensuring that AI driven tools and output adhere to best practices for accuracy, fairness, and transparency. Partner with Standards & Legal teams as the newsroom lead to detail clear guidelines and ethical boundaries for AI-solutioned editorial work, ensuring content accuracy, authenticity, and transparency.
- Advocacy for AI Ethics: Act as a key advocate for responsible AI usage, addressing challenges such as misinformation and inaccuracies while developing strategies to safeguard journalistic integrity.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: In partnership with business-side AI Leadership, work collaboratively with corporate partners and other divisions on AI initiatives. Be the voice of and advocate for the editorial perspective during these discussions, helping to inform and influence plans. Be a key partner in helping to roll-out any necessary enterprise-wide implementation.
- Partner with AI Task Force: Be a key editorial partner on the all AI task force work, providing editorial input and guidance when needed and appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience…

Expertise : Bachelor’s degree required . Advanced degree in Journalism , Data Science, or equivalent work experience in a related field with a strong understanding of AI technologies and their implications in media strongly preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 10 -15 years of experience in senior-level editorial roles within a media or technology organization is required . Should have a proven track record of collaborating directly with product and technological teams with a focus on developing solutions and practical applications of using advanced technology in an editorial setting or context.

Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of AI tools and methodologies, as well as experience with data analysis, machine learning applications, and consumer product development in a media and editorial context.

Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and collaborate effectively across organizational functions, communicating complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Strategic Mindset: Strong business acumen with the ability to align AI initiatives with organizational goals and revenue strategies.

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $138,600.00 – $257,400.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros.
