Job Purpose
The Corporate Affairs team manage day-to-day links with a wide range of individuals and organisations, all of whom are categorised as external stakeholders. These stakeholders include, but are not limited to, senior industry figures, broadcasting policy experts and academics, commentators, people with a professional interest in the BBC and/or some power or influence over the Corporations remit and funding. The Corporate Affairs team co-ordinate the BBC’s corporate engagement with these stakeholders, and manage a programme of external engagement for senior BBC Executives.
Line managed by the Head of Corporate Engagement and with day to day workload managed by the Corporate Affairs Manager, the Communications Adviser will support colleagues to proactively contribute to identifying and maximising opportunities to promote an understanding and approval for the BBC’s purpose and achievements as a major public and cultural organisation.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- To be a key part of a small team producing the BBC’s Annual Report and Accounts; taking responsibility for sourcing/placing all images used in the report and leading on meeting all accessibility requirements.
- To write and produce the Corporate Affairs weekly newsletter ‘This Week, Next Week’ for circulation to key external stakeholders and parliamentarians, on behalf of the Head of Corporate Affairs.
- To manage an extensive database used to manage interactions with a wide range of external stakeholders. The postholder is responsible for both the content and technical maintenance of the database, as well as making sure it is compliant with GDPR regulations.
- Produce briefing/biographical information on key external stakeholders for the Director General and Chairman’s offices.
- Responsible for managing our core stakeholder lists; keeping them relevant and up to date so that they reflect a wide range of individuals and organisations who are relevant to the BBC.
- Daily monitoring/logging of relevant stakeholder information from the press cuts, twitter, media articles, speeches etc, capturing information and feedback from internal and external contacts.
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
- An appreciation of the individuals and organisations who influence the public policy debate surrounding the BBC.
- A good understanding of the BBC’s role in the wider media landscape and the key issues affecting UK broadcasting.
- Proven relevant experience of drafting and producing a range of communication materials (e.g. briefing notes, biographical information, presentations or other forms of communication) for senior executives, at short notice and to tight deadlines.
- Highly computer literate. Previous experience of managing/using a stakeholder contact database is highly desirable.
- Excellent research skills and attention to detail. Must be highly organised.
- Able to analyse and interpret complex data and translate into easy to understand materials.
- Able to work on own initiative and forge strong links with both key internal teams and external stakeholders.
- An understanding of the Data Protection Act and GDPR.
- A collaborative approach to working as a member of a busy team with shared objectives
- An appreciation of design and print production processes associated with the annual report
- Flexibility – this post will involve some unsociable hours whilst working on the annual report project. Time off in lieu will be given.

Contract: Permanent
Salary:Up to £35,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
