Border is a visual essay about a medical examiner, Laura, who processes the remains of illegal immigrants who’ve died in the desert during their perilous journey. When she finds an unidentified decomposing body with a special pendant, she is reminded of her older brother who was deported out of the country and wonders if this could be him. She mourns the loss of her brother, the deaths of the migrants, and the American Dream.
BILL – Male, Caucasian, 20’s-50’s
Medical examiner who’s partnered with Laura. Bill works with Laura to retrieve, identify, and process the bodies of deceased border crossers.
The AFI 2nd Year 35mm MOS represents the one of the most significant and personal projects for an AFI cinematographer.
