Round & Square is a character piece dealing with the idea of loneliness, and the implications of being alone vs. being with other people. The film puts an emphasis on the philosophies behind relationships, and how it affects us. The round sky and square Earth- both integral parts of the film- bring into question the truth of the universe, and belonging of every individual.

Following a recent breakup, the Boy tries to fill the void that was there while he was with someone. He struggles with finding value in himself and his life, along with his relation to other people as a whole.

The Girl is trying to figure out what the next steps are now as an individual. She is feeling unsure about her place in society, and the reality of being seen as “ordinary”.

Director’s note: The audition will not involve many lines for actors but it will run and flow purely on the actors’ performances and portrayed emotions. It is not necessary, but is better with actors who can speak fluent Mandarin.
