Avery
Female, 20’s – early 30’s, open ethnicity. A bit quirky, artsy, full of life and passion. Michael is her first love. A lot of existential anxiety and uncertainty about life and thinks Michael is the only sure thing in her life so she holds onto him and is absolutely heartbroken when he decides to break up. He’s made a lot of mistakes and she allows him to even though it hurts her because she loves him. She needs to go on this journey in the hotel to realize that life is going to be full of uncertainty and learn to accept what can’t be changed.
Michael
Male, mid 20’s – mid 30’s, open ethnicity. Michael has been in relationships most of his life, so he’s not sure of exactly who he is or what he wants. He did love Avery at some point but he feels suffocated now and wants time to be alone and figure out what he wants with his life. He’s never been good with expressing himself and he wants to just run away from confrontation but the hotel and Avery make it difficult for him to do so. He has to go on his own journey in the hotel to realize what needs to be done.
Receptionist
Male, 40’s – 60’s, open ethnicity. He’s been in the hotel for over twenty years with his partner. It’s their home now. Their relationship has gone back and forth a lot. At times he’s wanted to leave and other times she’s wanted to leave him, but they stuck together. It became too comfortable and they used their many years together as an excuse to continue. They both roam the hotel keeping themselves busy and avoiding each other. Symbol of a dead marriage, in the same physical space but no sense of emotional closeness.
