What We Do

Beverly Hills Television (BHTV) is the government cable channel for the City of Beverly Hills, and since 1984, has been producing award-winning local programming that informs and educates residents on municipal issues, offers insights into the City’s programs and events, and is dedicated to lifelong learning. Our programs have won three L.A. Area Emmy awards and received six nominations. The station has also received numerous regional and national programming awards.

What We’re Looking For
The City of Beverly Hills is seeking an outstanding Video Producer / Editor. In this position you will be expected to produce, write, edit, shoot, and direct municipal programs. The person in this role will work on posting and publishing video and media content to a variety of online, streaming, on-demand, and broadcast platforms. The ideal candidate will have well-rounded experience in video/audio content, writing, production, film, non-linear editing, and more. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be responsible, dependable, and displays a passion and commitment to working in a dynamic video production and post-production environment. We are looking for a team player that has outstanding written and verbal communication skills, customer service ethic, and enjoys working with a diverse group of people. This position reports directly to the Video Production Supervisor

Work Schedule: This is a full-time position and will be working a non-traditional work schedule, which may include evenings and weekends (including both Saturdays & Sundays).

Selection Process: Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and whose interests and experience appear to meet the desired qualifications of the position will be invited to participate in the next steps of the recruitment process which will include:
(1) Supplemental Questionnaire
(2) Oral Interview
(3) Technical Project (tentative)

Conviction History
As a finalist for a job, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction (or arrest, in limited circumstances) conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you are a finalist. Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with the City. If you are selected as a finalist, you will be contacted to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.

Disaster Service Workers
All City of Beverly Hills employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.

Major Duties
To write, produce, direct, shoot, edit, and facilitate the creation and distribution of media content; to perform a variety of tasks in support of the Cable TV, video, and media function of the City; and to provide professional level support to an assigned supervisor.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the journey level in the single-level professional Producer/Editor class. As experience is gained, incumbents are expected work with increasing independence.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from assigned supervisor or designee.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES – Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Produce, write, edit, shoot, and direct municipal programs.
Post and publish video and media content to a variety of online, streaming, on-demand, and broadcast platforms.
Prepare, set-up, and direct multi-camera studio and live events.
Interact and assist the public with questions and concerns.
Create media for staff training and community education programs.
Attend City Council and various commission meetings to support media operations.
Assist in maintaining archive of video, audio, and media assets and other related content.
Maintain studio, control room, and field production equipment used, and may perform minor equipment repairs.
Assist new or existing staff in learning departmental practices and protocols, office methods and procedures, and computer software and systems.
Answers cable television information service calls, records complaints, and contacts the franchise operator for resolution.
Completes a variety of forms to track all contacts related to cable franchise activity.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect.
Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:

Two years of responsible media production and editing experience.
Training:
Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in television, film and digital media, journalism, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of:
Video cameras, sound equipment, lighting equipment, editing equipment, related video, digital media, and audio equipment.
Television program creation, development, script writing, production, and editing.
Broadcast video and online platforms principles and techniques.
English usage, spelling, and grammar.
Computer applications as related to areas assigned.

Ability to:
Write, produce, direct, shoot, edit, and facilitate the creation and distribution of media content.
Understand all aspects of television systems and operations; identify, interpret, and problem-solve operational and technical issues.
Use creativity in researching topics and writing scripts.
Join video and audio material into creative and interesting productions.
Coordinate, direct, and supervise the work of others.
Work under pressure and time lines.
Use sound judgment in recognizing scope of authority.
Operate and use standard office equipment including computers and applicable software.
Maintain regular attendance and adhere to prescribed work schedule to conduct job responsibilities.
Utilize appropriate safety procedures and practices for assigned duties.
Work a flexible schedule in order to meet the needs of the City, including evening and weekend assignments.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a tactful and effective manner.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
