Position Summary

In an educational setting, independently, consistently and accurately portrays specific emotions, behaviors and/or disease symptoms while interacting with students in health, wellness, and public safety programs during simulated patient/client encounters designed to enable experiential learning and/or assessment of students’ skills. Reports back to instructors about student behaviors using standardized measurement tools, and participates in group training and/or mentorship of entry-level standardized patients. Works varied hours on an on-call basis, as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Studies a script, or directions, to learn about the character and/or learning scenario and memorizes speaking or behavioral parts.
  • Portrays all of the characteristics of the part assigned.
  • Learn all aspects of a case portrayal including the part’s appearance, demeanor, chief complaint, symptoms, past medical history, family history, and physical findings.
  • Simulate a variety of abnormal physical findings depending on the case needs.
  • Work in a professional manner when interacting with learners, faculty, fellow actors, and staff.
  • Demonstrate improvisational skills when appropriate in case portrayals.
  • Receive ongoing feedback and modify behaviors accordingly.
  • Provide appropriate feedback to learners and colleagues as needed by the project.
  • Provides training and workshops for faculty, staff and students; collaborates with other departments, divisions and community agencies.
  • Participates on specific college initiatives and teams; implements first year experience strategies.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED; no previous experience required.
