Film Music Composer (Remote)

This role is ideal for a talented music composer with strong string performance skills, seeking to create an emotionally resonant score for an independent film. The project centers on composing 10–15 minutes of original music, primarily featuring live string instruments such as violin, viola, cello, or double bass. The score will underscore pivotal scenes between an anti-hero and a child, requiring a nuanced approach that balances tenderness, warmth, and subtlety. The music should enhance the film’s emotional arc without overwhelming the narrative, maintaining an intimate and organic sound. Collaboration will be fully remote, with access to reference scenes, timings, and spotting notes to ensure the score aligns with the locked cut. Professionalism, clear communication, and a collaborative spirit are essential for this self-funded production.

Deliverables

• Compose and record 10–15 minutes of original, cinematic music tailored to the film’s key scenes
• Perform live string parts (violin, viola, cello, or double bass) to achieve an authentic, human feel
• Optionally incorporate gentle piano counterpoint to enhance emotional moments
• Collaborate remotely with the filmmaker, sharing reference materials and feedback throughout the process

Requirements

• Proven experience composing for film or visual media, with a strong portfolio of emotionally driven scores
• Proficiency in at least one string instrument (violin, viola, cello, or double bass); ability to perform and record your own parts
• Ability to create music that supports narrative and character development without overpowering dialogue or visuals
• Experience working remotely and communicating effectively with creative collaborators
• Professional, reliable, and able to meet agreed deadlines
