DOP / Videographer & Editor
Shon Productions
Shon Productions is a friendly, fast-growing video production company based in Brisbane — creating high-quality content for national brands, schools, government, charities, and corporate clients across Australia.
We’re a compact core team supported by a wide network of trusted freelancers around the country. After 17+ years in the industry, we’re growing quickly — and we’re looking for an experienced, self-sufficient DOP / Videographer & Editor who’s confident on set, collaborative with people, and passionate about crafting great work.
If you’re currently at another production company and craving more variety, or a seasoned freelancer tiring of the feast/famine cycle, this could be the perfect next role.
What You’ll Do
On Shoots
-
Confident working on both 1-person shoots and small crew setups — interviewing talent, directing, capturing b-roll, and handling audio and lighting as needed.
-
Shoot across a wide range of projects: corporate interviews, brand films, schools, events, social content, testimonials, scripted pieces, lifestyle, and more.
-
Operate cinema cameras (we primarily use Canon C70s & R5s, with a full lighting/sound kit).
-
Use manual focus confidently for interviews and lifestyle work.
-
Work with gimbals, drones, and run-and-gun setups.
-
Work solo and as part of larger crewed productions with actors, producers, and collaborators.
-
Travel interstate or stay away overnight when needed.
-
Open to using your own reliable car/SUV for some shoots (fully reimbursed), noting we are also looking at purchasing a production van to kit out for easy shooting.
In Post-Production
-
Edit in Adobe Premiere Pro to align with our team workflow.
-
Colour grade in DaVinci Resolve for basic to intermediate looks.
-
Work with After Effects for simple graphics (lower thirds, supers, titles).
-
Organise footage, create timelines efficiently, export and deliver assets to clients.
-
Work from home most of the time with a provided high-spec MacBook Pro and company-paid fast internet.
What a Typical Week Looks Like
This role has great variety — no two weeks look the same.
-
Many weeks include 1–2 days of shooting and the rest editing, planning, or prepping gear.
-
Busy periods often include 3–5 shoot days a week, depending on client demand.
-
Some weeks are more post-production focused, others are filled with travel and on-location shooting.
-
Across the month, you’ll generally work on a mix of interviews, corporate stories, schools, events, brand pieces, social content, and lifestyle shoots.
If you enjoy variety and want to avoid doing the same thing every day, you’ll love this role.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone with real, professional production experience — not a hobbyist or someone who occasionally films as part of another role. We need a full-time creative who lives and breathes video.
You’ll be a great fit if you:
-
Have several years working as a videographer/DOP and editor (ideally within a production company, creative agency or freelance).
-
Are confident talking with clients, directing interviews, and working with real people.
-
Can manage the full workflow: lighting, audio, framing, exposure, directing, shooting, and editing.
-
Have strong experience lighting interviews.
-
Are comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a small, supportive team.
-
Are reliable and available for early call times, late finishes, and occasional nights away.
-
Hold (or can obtain) a Working With Children Check — we shoot in schools often.
-
Are Brisbane-based for gear collection, prep, and return.
-
Have (or can upgrade to) fast home internet — we cover the cost for work use.
-
Stills photography experience is a bonus but not essential.
Gear You’ll Use
We provide all core production equipment, including:
-
Canon C70 & R5 bodies
-
A range of primes and zooms
-
Aputure & Amaran lighting
-
Shotgun, lav, and wireless audio
-
Gimbals (DJI)
-
DJI drones
-
Scrims, modifiers, and full accessory kits
-
High-spec MacBook Pro for editing and colour
We are also looking at purchasing a production van to kit out for easy shooting.
