Eyeline Studios

At Eyeline, Scanline VFX’s virtual production division, we want to provide you with a solid foundation where you can be a part of an innovative team of brilliant researchers, developers and virtual storytellers. Learn more.

The Applied Innovations Group is a nimble, high-impact unit operating at the frontier of film technology and storytelling. We are seeking a VFX Innovation Generalist to join our core team. This role is for a rare type of individual – someone equally technical and creative, who moves seamlessly between set and code, between tools and people.

This is not a position with rigid boundaries. You’ll be tasked with solving complex, often undefined problems – prototyping solutions, bridging departments, and working across disciplines. You’ll be expected to lead when needed, follow when required, and always bring a sharp, collaborative mindset to the table.

Key Responsibilities

    • Contribute to the design and execution of advanced workflows across VFX, virtual production, and real-time pipelines
    • Prototype and deploy tools using Python, C++, and VEX within Houdini, Nuke, and Unreal Engine
    • Apply deep knowledge of color science to identify, troubleshoot, and communicate issues in color pipelines and color space handling – without owning their maintenance
    • Interface directly with on-set technologies and camera systems, including playback, data wrangling, and virtual production toolchains
    • Engage in on-set roles as needed, including VFX set supervision, and provide technical oversight and support across shoot days
    • Manage and prioritize tasks in coordination with broader project goals and timelines
    • Collaborate fluidly with artists, engineers, and production leads to push forward high-stakes initiatives in a fast-moving environment
    • Flex between lead and support roles as projects evolve
    • Operate with strong situational awareness and adapt quickly to changes in scope or direction

Qualifications

      Advanced expertise in:

    • Python, C/C++
    • Houdini (PDG, procedural modelling and scripting including VEX)
    • Nuke (including Python NDK)
    • Unreal Engine (including real-time pipelines)
    • Strong understanding of:

    • Film production, on-set protocols, and the practical flow of a live shoot
    • VFX pipelines and cross-discipline collaboration
    • VFX set supervision, including camera data wrangling, witness cam setup, and on-set continuity
    • Film cameras, lenses, sensor metadata, and camera tracking workflows
    • Set playback technologies and virtual production setups
    • Color pipelines, ACES, OCIO, LUTs, and color space conversions (conceptual and diagnostic knowledge)
    • Project management, agile scheduling, and task prioritizationCommunicating clearly and effectively across departments and disciplines
    • You Might Be a Fit If You:

    • Think like a generalist but execute like a specialist
    • Are confident switching between R&D and production contexts
    • Can walk onto a stage, spot a problem, and offer a solution – or know who to ask
    • Are just as comfortable prototyping solo as you are collaborating across teams
    • Lead with initiative, but follow with humility
    • Believe in working smart, staying curious, and never being the bottleneck
    • What We Offer:

    • A role inside a small, forward-thinking team with real impact
    • Access to bleeding-edge tools, tech, and production workflows
    • A collaborative environment built on trust, experimentation, and adaptability
    • Opportunities to shape the future of production through hands-on innovation
