Under direct supervision, the Cable TV Production Assistant I/II performs high quality educational and informative technical production of video programming for the City’s Cable Television channel. The incumbent will be assigned to work a varying schedule which may include nights, mornings, weekends, and holidays.

The essential duties of this position includes, but are not limited to: operates a variety of professional video and audio equipment in the cable television studio and at site locations; assists with the live broadcasting and post production of City Council and commission meetings, special productions and various special events; sets up and breaks down equipment in live multi-camera production assignments; prepares equipment for transportation to site locations; produces graphics for the community bulletin board; interviews, hosts, and participates in video production as needed; promotes educational and special interest programs; organizes and digitizes video production and audio library; assists with website and social media content; and other duties as assigned; CATV Production Assistant II: edits video programs, segments, and public service announcements; assists in the design and production of creative graphics for use on the community bulletin board and video programs; designs and produces still images and motion graphics; writes and develops scripts for programs for programs and public service announcements; uses teleprompter; installs, maintains and repairs videos and video production equipment; and performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Any combination of work experience, education, and training that would provide required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: Graduation from high school or its equivalent AND CATV Production Assistant I: One (1) to three (3) years of experience operating video and audio equipment in a production environment; OR CATV Production Assistant II: Three (3) to four (4) years’ experience editing, operating video and audio equipment in a production environment. Possession of and maintenance of a valid California Class C Driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record is required.

Knowledge of: Principles and practices of video media format and production terminology; computers; multi-media and graphics software such as Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects and other related applications; single and multiple camera production techniques and equipment; operation of editing equipment and video cameras; microphone and cable types; lighting/audio recording techniques and theory; cable television operations and the operation of other portable and studio video equipment; social media platforms; proper use of vocabulary, grammar, spelling and punctuation; interpersonal skills using tact and patience; and excellent customer service.

Ability to: Operate professional video cameras; set up video and audio equipment; operate complex video and audio equipment, including multi-camera operations; analyze and problem solve technical and operational difficulties; operate and perform minor repairs on video, audio, and accessory equipment; write new style reporting scripts; edit video programming and graphics; operate a computer and related software; communicate effectively orally and in writing; pay close attention to detail; maintain complete, accurate and timely records; and meet deadlines; work independently and as a reliable team member; and establish and maintain positive, productive working relationships. On a continuous basis sit and stand; frequent use of hands and finger; speak and hear; occasional/frequent bend, walk, squat, stoop, kneel, push, pull; lift/move 15 pounds and move up to 75 pounds; subject to frequent interruptions, public contact, and moderate noise level in the work environment. Must work evenings, weekends, and other non-traditional hours to meet production needs.
