PennLive is looking for someone who can bring a news story to life with a camera. In this role, you’ll do more than point and shoot with your lens.

High school sports are so important to our local community. We’re looking for someone who can bring an added layer to our award-winning coverage through live streams.

The ideal candidate will be out at the big games throughout the week, broadcasting live from the sidelines. Experience calling games and using tools to set up replay and scorebugs is a plus. This candidate will need to work closely with local athletic directors and coaches to make arrangements for their broadcasts.

When not at a game, this candidate should also be able to use video from their broadcasts to create highlight reels to share on social media. As a whole, we have more than one million followers across our social media fleet already with room to grow that even more.

While sports will be a large part of this role, this candidate should also look for opportunities to stream community events, including proms, forums, breaking news, and press conferences. Content creation will include video clips tailored for TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, along with longer-form videos for YouTube.

To be a good fit for this opportunity, you will have:

• Degree in journalism or communications or equivalent education and work experience

• Ability to leverage relationships with sources to deliver content that differentiates the organization from competitors

• Proven experience building, maintaining and successfully engaging an active audience through various platforms and tools including web, mobile, social media, etc

• Eagerness to work under deadline pressure and prioritize tasks appropriately

• Experience shooting and editing video, livestreaming events, taking photos and recording audio

• Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva), along with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro) is a plus

• A solid understanding of writing, spelling, grammar, and journalistic ethics

• The ability and desire to remain abreast of industry advances and to proactively consider new methods of reaching audiences including engaging, interactive and optimized product offerings

This job requires reliable transportation to meet with sources or cover events. Your normal work hours may be on the early shift, nights or weekends, so you’ll need to have the flexibility to cover what is needed.
