Job Description:

Welcome Adventurer!

For our brave tribe Black Drakkar Games we are looking for an experienced VFX Art Conjuress/Conjurer (VFX Artist).

We are a young developers’ studio established by industry veterans and powered by very experienced and perfectly harmonized individuals. We are a Polish company based in Warsaw, hidden in the silence and greenery of Fort Mokotow. Our team co-develops various game projects.

One of them is the game Fort Solis – a single player third person thriller set over one long night on Mars. Engineer Jack Leary responds to a routine alarm where events unravel and escalate out of control in a way he could never have imagined. With fantastic performances from the cast (Roger Clark, Troy Baker, Julia Brown), Fort Solis looks to deliver a high-fidelity experience designed to completely immerse the player.

Currently, one of the ongoing projects we are involved in is an unannounced Sci-Fi game based on a popular IP and developed in Unreal Engine 5.  For this project, we are seeking a talented VFX Artist who will play a key role in creating visual effects for the upcoming game.

What will be your main responsibilities?

  • Create visual effects for the game using industry-standard tools.
  • Balance the visual quality and performance of VFX, ensuring effects run smoothly across platforms.
  • Create and customize shaders to achieve desired visual effects.
  • Ensure that all VFX adhere to the game’s art style and contribute to the overall aesthetic.
  • Work closely with game designers, animators, and environment artists to integrate VFX into gameplay and level sequences.
  • Document VFX processes, tools, and best practices to share with the team.
  • Playtest the game to identify areas where VFX can enhance player experience or clarify gameplay mechanics.
  • Ownership and day to day communication with programmers and technical art to develop, enhance, and maintain VFX systems.
  • Be an active participant in team discussions.

What kind of professional are we looking for?

  • At least 3 years in a similar role.
  • Solid experience with:
    • Niagara systems and blueprints for VFX (scratch pad is a plus).
    • Shaders and optimization in UE5.
    • Textures in Substance Designer/Photoshop.
  • Decent knowledge in making simulations and flipbooks in Houdini/Embergen or similar.
  • Familiar with source control systems – it’s Perforce in our case.
  • Familiar with at least one 3D software, preferably Blender.
  • Experience in stealth games is a plus.
  • Experience with vertex animation is a plus.
  • Experimenting with newer features such as chaos/cache fluid simulations is welcome.

What personal qualities are important to us?

  • Self-motivation and conscientiousness.
  • Creativity and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • High communication skills.
  • Strong desire for continuous learning and development.
  • Team-oriented mindset.

Why do we enjoy working here?

  • Work with a skilled and friendly team of game creators.
  • Interesting projects that help you grow as a developer.
  • Opportunity to work on high-quality projects.

What are the conditions and bonuses?

  • Attractive salary depending on experience.
  • Work on-site or hybrid in Warsaw or remote.
  • Long-term cooperation.
  • Flexible working time (core hours 10:00 – 16:00).
  • Holidays and sick days are paid.
  • Medical care and MultiSport.

As part of the recruitment process, we may ask you to complete a recruitment task related to the role you are applying for.
