The Department
The Technology, Operations, and Services unit, provides technical and editing support across World News, Current Affairs, Sport, NITV, Documentaries, and General Entertainment production.
The Role
SBS is offering a rare and exciting opportunity to join the News production team in our Parliament House Bureau in Canberra. As a video editor working in a fast-paced high functioning bureau, you will contribute to producing engaging content for SBS World News, SBS digital and social media platforms.
Reporting to both the Bureau ENG & Camera Operations Supervisor as well as the Manager of Video Editing Operations, this role involves working on editing shifts and requires the following capabilities:
- Broadcast Experience: Edit and deliver high-quality, factual, and engaging content with both creative and technical excellence. Take full ownership of editing responsibilities for programmes, news, and events.
- Social Media Expertise: Proven experience editing videos for platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube.
- Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Audition. Familiarity with After Effects and Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve is desirable.
- Editorial Insight: Demonstrate strong editorial judgment and a keen sense of news storytelling, ensuring content is engaging, accurate, and aligned with SBS editorial standards. Keen interest in Federal Politics and International News.
- Media Management: Knowledge of data handling and media wrangling.
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively and professionally with colleagues, fostering a positive and productive team environment. Supporting fellow Broadcast Operations team members and Bureau Manager in day-to-day bureau operations.
- Client-Focused Mindset: A genuine desire to exceed client expectations by delivering exceptional service.
- On-Site Commitment: Availability to work at our Parliament House Bureau in Canberra.
- Flexibility in Scheduling: Willingness to work a fixed Monday to Friday roster, that could on occasion include weekends and late nights, as required in News and Current Affairs.
About you
We are seeking a professional with solid experience in television broadcast news, social media and digital video production. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in factual video editing and a proven ability to consistently deliver high-quality, engaging content under tight deadlines. You are a strategic thinker with a results-driven approach and take full ownership to achieve outstanding outcomes.
