ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Seeking individual with interest in the outdoors (hunting/fishing/recreation) and/or conservation and environmental science to join our team on Prairie Sportsman. Check us out on https://www.pioneer.org/prairiesportsman.

Primarily responsible for leading and coordinating productions focusing on LCCMR funded Prairie Sportsman.

content. Responsibilities include: developing ideas for new programs, building relationships with production

funders & partners, and executing new media initiatives. Develop content for multiple platforms and uses

including broadcast, web-based delivery, education materials and promotion.

● Supervise all aspects of content production from development of initial concept to delivery to the

audience.

● Write, research, and produce programs for Pioneer PBS broadcast and other content delivery systems

● Operate Cameras, drones, microphones for production.

● Edit segments and assemble Prairie Sportsman episodes.

● Work with photographers, editors, writers, researchers, narrators, web designers, underwriters, and

others in a collaborative approach to deliver high-quality content to Pioneer audiences

● Work with underwriting staff and prospective funders to expand the base of program support

● Develop, maintain, and track LCCMR production budgets in consultation with Pioneer leadership.

● Maintain compliance with appropriate rules and regulations, including those specific to LCCMR funded

activities as specified by the Minnesota Legislature and Department of Administration, FCC regulations,

and Pioneer production guidelines

● Lead Prairie Sportsman production team or teams consisting of existing staff and free-lance workers

● Collaborate with other members of the Pioneer management team to incorporate LCCMR productions

into other Pioneer activities

● Work with peers at other MPTA stations on collaborative projects as needed

● Participate in Pioneer events and station-wide projects

● Travel for Pioneer production needs to production sites and meetings throughout the area

● Maintain a work schedule that is consistent with the needs of Pioneer, the production teams, with long

hours as needed to complete productions, and as defined in consultation with your supervisor

● Develop related materials that “enhance, educate, or promote” the subject matter of Prairie

Sportsman content.

Skills & characteristics needed

● Integrity to develop and maintain strong, trusting working relationships with other Pioneer staff, free-

lance workers, production team members, funders, donors, and members of the public

● Writing and research skills

● The ability to write appropriately for TV, the web and other distribution systems

● Accuracy and attention to detail in reporting information for broadcast, budgeting for projects, and

working with colleagues

● Excellent communication skills

● An even temperament, even when working under tight deadlines

● Willingness to work long hours on occasion

● Dedication to the mission of Pioneer PBS.

● Respect for colleagues and for the mission of public television

● Public relations skills to build and maintain relationships with the public

● The ability to learn quickly, especially with technology

● Be a self-starter, show initiative

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of five to seven years production experience, with a proven track record in researching, writing, and

producing high-quality programs, operating broadcast quality cameras and editing in the Adobe creative suite.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Ability to work well under deadlines is a must. In-state travel required, with additional hours. Physical

requirements: Must be able to perform essential job functions

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 – $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
