Free Agency is on a mission to empower people to reach the highest levels of their career potential. We work with talent to break the information and process asymmetries holding them back from doing more, making more, and being more. We’ve raised over $15M from world-class investors like Maveron, Resolute Ventures, Bloomberg Beta, Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman’s Thirty Five Ventures, Palm Tree Crew, and more.

Free Agency brings Hollywood-style career management to knowledge workers, starting with the tech industry. We provide concierge services and digital products to help people find incredible jobs, make more money, and become high-performing leaders. Unlike solutions in recruiting, we’re entirely paid by the talent we work with, which enables us to provide them with dedicated Talent Agents to manage “the business end” of their career. Talent success becomes our success.

To date, we’ve helped hundreds of professionals negotiate over $340 million in offers, and work with talent building the cutting-edge future in the startup and tech industry.

About the job:

We’re looking for a skilled Lead Videographer/DP to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about cinematography, camera operations, and leading a team of creatives to produce high-quality content.

We have a variety of shows we shoot weekly, but the anchor show: you’ll work closely with our founder/CEO and lead a 5-person team to produce and shoot a multicam live show every Tuesday from 1 to 9/10pm. It’s like Shark Tank, but with a live audience (show time is 6:30pm to 8:30pm). We do this show every Tuesday, save for holidays.

Depending on your availability, there are additional shoots you’d be able to lead (ex. a regular 4-hour shoot on Fridays where you’d be the solo camera operator, or an ad hoc weekly on-location interview show with a crew of 5 for 7 hours).

The content types include: in-person live events (panels, fireside chats, made-for-YouTube shows etc), course content, mid to long-form content for YouTube, and podcasts.

We shoot with cinema-level camera and audio equipment, all of which we own in-house. You should have a strong sense for cinematic quality, high production value, rugged setups and breakdowns, and an ability to direct other camera operators in an effective and efficient way.

You will:

  • Lead a 5-person team for live multicam shoots on Tuesdays, including live camera operation yourself as necessary
  • Optionally lead other shoots scheduled on an ad hoc basis, leading a crew or serving as a solo camera operator as necessary
  • Plan and executive sets with a cinematic quality, including setup, lighting, collaboration with audio counterparts, and live event ops
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and optimized, including proper ingestion of footage post-shoots

You should:

  • Have a natural skill and passion for cinematography, shot framing, visual storytelling, and pace, capable of filming highly-compelling and attractive content.
  • Have experience using high-end camera equipment (we operate Sony FX3 and FX6 cameras, wireless mic systems with lavs + booms), lighting (we have no additional grips or gaffers, the team of videographers handles all setup), and directing other cameras.

Please ensure your application materials include a link to your prior work.

The potential compensation for this role is expansive in potential structure, both to seniority and the candidate’s working preferences (hourly rates, day rates, and project rates are all up for grabs). As a baseline, we expect the pay range to be equivalent to $50 per hour, depending on experience.

Why Free Agency matters:

Job search and career progression are broken. Candidates haphazardly apply to jobs, meet only a few companies, settle during offer negotiation, and generally don’t optimize the process of moving along in their careers. As a result, Free Agency believes that everyone is undercompensated.

That doesn’t just have to do with the money we make, but also the teams we’re a part of, the type of work we get to do, and the alignment to mission along the way. All of this has an impact on our own satisfaction, health, and financial wellness, but we don’t give it the attention it deserves.

By aligning incentives with individual talent, Free Agency is enabled to build first-of-their-kind products & services and define a new category of career management.
