Applications are invited for the above-indicated vacancy within Newzroom Afrika. The incumbent will report to the Supervisor: Post-production.
Job purpose

The video editor assembles all news stories, current affairs, and long-form programming content for the channel. Following prescribed editorial briefs to best meet the objective of each story
Key responsibilities
Report directly to the post-production supervisor
Take on brief for every edit with a clear understanding of delivery objective
Go through all footage to plan out the edit accordingly
Edit and manipulate raw footage together with overlay visuals and images to assemble the package/programme/byte as per the editorial brief
View your own work before calling for both content and technical quality control (QC)
Follow the departmental standard operating procedures for saving and storing packages and footage
Communicate all badly shot footage to the post-production coordinator for escalation
Ensure adherence to the company-stipulated shift roster
Manage time on each edit to efficiently work through multiple stories within a shift
Continuously discover and implement new editing technologies and industry’s best practices to maximise efficiency
Requirements
Matric plus a relevant certificate/diploma/degree in a field related to television production.
A minimum of three years of experience in a video editing role.
Solid experience with digital technology and editing software (i.e., Avid Media Composer, Lightworks, Premiere, After Effects)
Demonstrable video editing ability with a strong portfolio
Thorough knowledge of timing, motivation and continuity
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Creative mind and storytelling skills
Ability to follow instructions and remain professional under pressure.
Sound troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Ability to work under pressure and stay calm when things go wrong.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Professional self-starter with a growth mindset.
Must have excellent organisational and communication skills.
Possess a strong fundamental understanding of video and audio production equipment and capabilities
Excellent command and understanding of the English language
Good multitasking skills
Excellent computer skills
Willingness to work varied shifts
