Position Overview
KSL TV is looking for a part time editor/photographer (20+ hours a week) to join their team. You would be responsible to edit and shoot video per the needs of KSL-TV News and meet the professional editing standards and deadlines set by KSL-TV News. This is an entry level position on our editing team, although editing will be the primary tasks of the position, news photography training will also be expected. We are looking for someone with editing experience who is interested in also training to capture video in the field and become a well-rounded storyteller able to gather and create a comprehensive finished product.
What You Will Do:
Primary job duties will include, but are not limited to:

Edit video material per needs of KSL-TV, using non-linear computer-based equipment.

Meet the various deadlines while maintaining and using professional editing skills, i.e., creativity, speed, technique and use of equipment.

Correctly operate and maintain ENG equipment (Maintain a working knowledge of setting up and receiving live shots and satellite feeds.)

Perform routine editing duties as assigned (i.e., archiving etc.).

Capture and edit news events and features as assigned as a photographer.

Operate a station vehicle and drive to and from news events in a timely and safe manner.

At events of news interest, gather information, shoot video, communicate with producers and editors to effectively present events.

Maintain communication with the station, alerting the desk by radio or phone of any story or personal status change that may affect the assignment.

Willing and able to perform on-call, weekend, and back-up on-call duties on a rotating basis.
Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:

Two years previous journalism broadcast experience, related field, or equivalent

Experience as Video Editor preferred
-
Prefer news photography or equivalent experience, including basic field lighting and audio skills

Experience with file based workflow preferred

Prefer degree in journalism or communications, or equivalent, with an emphasis in broadcast news

Experience with non-linear editing equipment required, preferably Adobe Premiere
-
Good vision, a sense of news value and creative abilities in editing techniques.

Self-starter, capable of making accurate journalistic editing decisions on stories in an innovative and creative ways

Ability to work effectively in a high stress team environment

Strong computer skills and able to get video from various computer-based formats and sources in a timely manner

An audition link or file is required, demonstrating accuracy, fairness and video editing news style
Compensation
$17.00-18.50 per hour. Hourly rate to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with market data.
