Summary
Enterprise Marketing and Communications is seeking to hire a Videographer/Editor.

The Videographer/Editor is responsible for contributing to VCU Enterprise Marketing and Communications (EMC) visual storytelling expertise by creating bold visual messages that inspire viewers to connect with the VCU brand. This position reports to the Director of Video and Photography Services and collaborates with cross-functional teams across the VCU enterprise. The Videographer/Editor serves as a proactive champion for advancing the VCU brand through creating compelling videos that shape favorable brand perceptions for VCU.
The Videographer/Editor position requires an expert visual storyteller, able to create, capture, and edit captivating video content that is untraditional, edgy, and embodies the VCU brand while promoting and protecting the institution’s reputation. The ideal candidate loves visual storytelling, embodies creativity, thinks outside the box, and can execute high-quality videos with efficiency and professionalism.
This role requires an ability to inspire creative partners, concept video creative, collaborate with stakeholders across the university, and edit video content. It’s equal parts conceptual and executional – with the ability to bring ideas big and small to life through videography and editing. It requires a talent that’s unafraid to push creative frontiers, experiment, and encourage others to do the same. The Videographer/Editor will create and produce high-quality content for brand marketing, brand journalism, owned websites, social media platforms, and various other media channels that meet the strategic needs of the university.
Typical Duties
Core Functions
- Candidates must possess a solid understanding of current video techniques and trends that inform structured storytelling that move viewers to connect with the VCU brand.
- Particular emphasis on the candidate’s demonstrated ability to create brand storytelling through exemplary editing skills.
- A proficient communicator of visual creative strategy, with the ability to provide, take and deliver up an approved creative direction.
- The ability to manage multiple video/editing assignments with great attention to detail

Minimum Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience with producing, shooting, and editing engaging videos for brand marketing and social media, with the ability to edit short and long-form content.
- Ability to create, shoot, produce, and edit video content on a variety of strategic themes, including, brand marketing, branded news, lifestyle, education, social media content, commercials, and short narrative documentaries.
- Collaborate with outside vendors, agencies, or video crews when larger scoped projects occur.
- Collaboration – work in partnership with creative, public relations, and brand teams to ensure project expectations are aligned and met.
- Ensure all assets are aligned with the VCU brand’s visual aesthetic, tone of voice, style, and personality.
- Facilitate, gather, and maintain digital assets and footage for all platforms.
- Skilled in script writing and executing videos from concept to completion.
- Experienced in all aspects of video post-production including editing, sound editing, color grading, finding/pairing music, basic motion design, and asset delivery.
- Strong understanding of brand marketing and social media content, current trends, and experience in creating visual content that builds brand value, and promotes and protects the institution’s reputation.
- Comfortable wearing multiple hats as needed.
- Ability to prioritize video projects autonomously, using time and resources efficiently.
- Excellent digital media file management.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse, faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and experience.
- Experience in all phase of video production – from conception to finished product including, scripting, camera setup, and operation, lighting, sound, and post-production editing.
- Proficient in production, equipment, and video editing software, such as Premiere, Adobe Creative Suite, DaVinci Resolve, and Photoshop.
- Demonstrated knowledge of various types of ENG, EFP, (Red, Sony, Black Magic), DSLR cameras required.
- Experience producing high-end, broadcast material preferred.
