The opportunity Wimbledon College of Arts (WCA) at University of the Arts London (UAL) is seeking a skilled Specialist Technician in Theatrical and Film Costume to join our team for a 12-month maternity cover. This role offers a chance to contribute to a rich, visionary and state-of-the-art environment where performers, designers, and creative technologists collaborate to create extraordinary work. As a key member of our Costume Technical Team, you’ll support both our established BA and new MA courses, offering your advanced knowledge, professional expertise and inclusive interpersonal skills to guide and inspire our students. Your responsibilities will include: Managing specialist equipment and consumables, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Administering systems, bookings, and maintenance records. Providing technical guidance that enhances students’ learning and creative projects, helping them to achieve professional standards in their work and preparing them for a smooth transition into their working life. About you We are seeking a versatile and experienced costume specialist with: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in costume or a related field and/or significant relevant experience in a similar technical role Proficiency in costume design interpretation with a working knowledge of pattern cutting, sewing, dyeing and millinery being desirable. Experience in delivering technical workshops from concept through to realisation. Strong creative abilities to assist students in bringing their ideas to life. Excellent communication skills, a good working knowledge of IT packages and the ability to manage technical resources efficiently. Your expertise will be vital in supporting students’ transition from education to industry, staying current with costume-making techniques, and promoting sustainable practices in our workshops. By bringing your technical expertise, passion for teaching and learning and collaborative mindset to the role, you will contribute to creating a safe, accessible and enriching environment for students at WCA, ensuring their journey with us is second to none.
