Job Description:
The Costume Designer is responsible for maintaining the Costume Shop and designing costumes for
productions in Dance, Theatre, and Musical Theatre. This is a part-time, nine-month position. The position reports to the Chair of the
Division of Arts and Humanities.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the Costume Shop:
- Organize and maintain the Costume
Shop so that all costumes can be easily located - Ensure all costumes are properly hung and stored
- Maintain costumes that
need special care, mending, and preservation - Periodically purge costumes that are beyond repair
- Catalog new and existing
costumes in the Costume Collection Catalog
- Organize and maintain the Costume
- Design, build, construct, fit, purchase online, launder, maintain, and rent
costumes for all plays, musicals, and dance concerts - Communicate with directors and choreographers regarding their costume needs
for productions, course projects, and photo/film shoots - Attend rehearsals to see the productions prior to designing costumes
- Build, construct, and fit costumes for productions
- Work with Production Manager to rent costumes if needed
- In
consultation with the Production Manager and Directors, attend production meetings with technical and design crews - Attend Tech Week
for dress rehearsals to ensure the smooth running of costume needs

environment. - Ability to work evenings and weekends
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in theatre or related field, or equivalent professional experience
Experience:
- 2+ years’ experience with costume construction, production space management, theatrical
productions - Knowledge of current costume construction techniques including machine and hand sewing
Physical
Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and standing
- Must be able to lift and carry or
otherwise move 25 pounds regularly
Salary:
The salary for this position is $33 an
hour
Hours Expectation:
Part-time, typically 15 hours a week from August to May; Increased hours during
production weeks (~6 times a year)
Housing:
Housing is not
provided.
