REPORTS TO: Show Manager

SUMMARY: We are searching for trained, adaptable Actors to perform in our Halloween production as “Scare Actors”. The Scare Actor will be required to gain an intimate understanding of their character, study all lines and directions, and then proceed to perform nightly, on weekends over the course of five weekends in October with the sole purpose of startling and scaring paid guests.

To ensure success as a Scare Actor, you should be able to discern whether to display strict adherence to the script or to improvise. A memorable Actor will feed off the team’s energy to produce realistic and terrifying performances.

Rehearsal and Production Dates & Locations:

Open Auditions:

  • August 18th, 2024 – 11:00 am to 2:00pm
  • August 25th, 2024 – 11:00 am to 2:00pm
  • September 8th, 2024 – 11:00 am to 2:00pm

Event Dates:

The attraction is open the following October 2024 weeks:

  • October 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th – 4pm to 11pm
  • October 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th – 4pm to 11pm
  • October 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th – 4pm to 11pm
  • October 30th & 31st – 4pm to 11pm

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creating a character and owning every aspect of it from voice to movement style.
  • Developing dialogue that adheres to the character you are portraying.
  • Attending small group meetings and dress rehearsals ahead of the show dates.
  • Heeding instruction regarding your movement and acting from the Show Director.
  • Performing in each show for the entire duration.
  • Ability to stay in character when communicating with the audience.
  • Representing our team at press-related events.
  • Pitching new ideas that seem appropriate for our show.

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

  • Previous acting experience is required.
  • Ability to utilize suitable acting techniques.
  • Demonstrable experience as a Scare Actor, preferably with a similar Haunted House and/or Halloween productions.
  • Knowledge of appropriate hair, makeup, and attire for various types of performances – costumes are provided.
  • Exceptional reading, movement, improvisation, and memorization skills.
  • Top-notch verbal communication skills, including the capacity to project your voice with clarity, create snarls and creature noises.
  • Interest in Halloween and haunted attractions encouraged!
  • Ability to maintain a clear distinction between your own identity and that of your character.
  • Creative, tenacious, and grounded.
  • Ages 16+
  • Reliable transportation to/from event location in the Portland-Metro area is required. Public transit is acceptable.
  • Full Thursday-Sunday availability in October including on Halloween from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm – No exceptions.

EDUCATION: No required educational experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 100% on-site at the production location Ridgefield, WA. The main performance area is OUTDOORS, which could be in wet and/or drastic cold environments.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $80.00 per day
