Full time starting salary is normally in the range £31,396 to £33,966 with potential progression once in post to £38,205

External Relations is comprised of nine teams which help drive delivery of the University’s strategic framework. External Relations communicates with Birmingham’s many different audiences in order to build purposeful relationships internally, locally, nationally, and globally. We enable those who wish to apply to study on undergraduate and postgraduate courses to make informed choices whilst ensuring our partnerships, profile and reputation reflects the success of the University and delivers impact. External Relations sits within the University’s Professional Services structure which provides outstanding support to our researchers, enables an exceptional educational experience for our students, and helps the University to grow its influence regionally, nationally, and globally.

Creative Media is a full-service agency sitting within External Relations. We work across a variety of channels with numerous audiences, clients, and sectors. We deliver high quality, innovative and creative solutions across, design, digital, video, and print.

This role is key to the agency’s success: delivering quality video content for high profile and/or strategically important projects. The postholder will have a specialism in video editing and post-production and will be able to deliver our creative offerings while responding to client needs.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Senior Content Producer Media, this role is responsible for producing engaging and effective content while collaborating with the wider team. You will be a strong narrative editor who is able to adapt your approach across multiple output channels such as online, events or social media. As an efficient and organised editor, you will also be adept at audio design, motion graphics, colour-balancing and all associated workflows.

As an experienced team player, you will be creative and able to deliver pre-production concepts, rough storyboards, and collaborate through to completion on large projects. You will also be willing to assist on shoots if required.

You will be passionate about creative, digital media and technology. You will keep abreast of the latest innovations and trends while continuously developing your skillset and pro-actively put forward ideas to support clients’ challenges and improve workflow.

Main Duties

  • Deliver narratively strong video projects from ideation to output that meet client briefs within budget and on time. This will include;
    • effectively interpreting briefs, researching audiences and developing solutions
    • strong idea generation from treatments/proposals through to storyboards
    • editing and mastering in the Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Collaborate on video content creation for clients by working effectively with the wider media production team, design team, account management team and freelance suppliers.
  • Participating in and ensuring the effectiveness of project and team meetings as required.
  • Producing highly organised and high quality files, ensuring all work is backed up and archived as appropriate. Your work will be within the parameters of the house styles, processes, and workflow.
  • Participate pro-actively and effectively in client meetings from briefing through to delivery and review.
  • Respond to feedback in an appropriate manner, listening and providing advice.
  • Engaging with our project management software and other tools and admin as required, for example the completion of timesheets.
  • You will work to a high level of professionalism and be a role-model in the team for the University’s values and behaviours to ensure a positive working environment and culture.
  • Ensure all output meets the relevant accessibility requirements and that copyright, licencing and privacy requirements are met.
  • You will be an active and knowledgeable ambassador of the UoB brand identity. You will collaborate with and advise clients, ensuring all work from the video team is on-brand and meets all necessary standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the wider University, including the Brand Team and IT Services.
  • You will continuously develop your own skillset to ensure our video offering meets clients’ needs now and in the future.
  • Any other duties as required by the Director of Creative Media, Head of Creative or the Senior Content Producer.

Person Specification

  • Educated to Degree level (or equivalent qualifications) in video production or relevant technical qualification and relevant experience in video and animation – where no equivalent qualification is held, extensive proven practical and technical experience in a similar role will be required.
  • Extensive proven practical experience in a relevant technical specialism.
  • High level of experience in editing, mastering, and motion graphics.
  • High level of experience in using Adobe Creative Cloud. Specifically Premiere, After Effects and Audition.
  • Strong use and understanding of the Microsoft Office software.
  • Understanding of web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG) accessibility regulations and creating with accessibility in mind so that all online content meets or exceeds AA legal accessibility guidelines for video.
  • It is advantageous to have additional experience in: animation, photography, storyboarding, design, 3D, XR.
  • Possessing an excellent eye for detail, you will be highly organised in your timelines and file structures, following all necessary workflows as required.
  • Significant proven experience in the creative industry (agency or client side) is essential.
  • A passion for creating content for digital and creative media while continuously developing your own knowledge and skillset.
  • A confident communicator: able to clearly convey complex ideas or technical details and sell them to the client and internally.
  • All round knowledge of video production processes including in-depth technical knowledge.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects and keep calm and focused under pressure.
  • Exceptional attention to detail: maintaining high standards and brand consistency.
  • Good time management, taking projects from concept through to delivery, on budget and to adhering to deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a ‘can-do’, pro-active problem-solving attitude to build and maintain positive relationships.
  • Demonstrative experience of working with commercial brands.
  • Technical expertise in regards to media production including camera, sound, lighting are desirable.
  • Evidence of literacy and numeracy, with the ability to write clearly, and to analyse information and data.
  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly.

Role context

Roles at this at this level will require proven specialist knowledge of technical, IT or scientific practices, methods and procedures gained through either experience and/or formal qualification and this knowledge should be deployed in the provision of a range of high-level technical support activities. You will have the opportunity to exercise a high degree of personal responsibility and initiative which you will use to resolve issues; you will use your judgement to deal with unforeseen problems and circumstances, all with limited guidance/supervision.
