Qualifications & Experience:

Editors are responsible for leading a team of video editors and post-production artists and specialists throughout the post-production process. The Editor maintains the overall awareness of the team’s actions, and thus ensures that the finished product meets and preferably exceeds the client’s expectations. The Editor must collaborate with the rest of the above the line Production team during every phase of the project including, scripting, music, animation and editing to ensure that the final product does not deviate from what is expected. This requires excellent communication skills, as highly creative and often abstract ideas will frequently be discussed and presented and must be understood so that everyone is operating on the same page. The Editor will also be in charge of creating and maintaining the post-production schedule for the editing process and for informing both the team and client of when projects will be ready for review and are expected to be completed.

As a leading member of the Marketing department’s Creative Media Services team the Editor is first and foremost a consummate editorial artist with a skilled and experienced eye and a highly-advanced and talented ability to work with Producers, Directors and Creative Directors, bringing sight and sound together in order to assemble recorded material into a cohesive story that matches the Director’s vision. He or she will be responsible for publishing and delivering the final media deliverables for internal and external audiences, as either pre-recorded or live content for distribution, as required, in support of NetApp’s global marketing vision and strategy.

The Editor is required to be highly experienced, creative and collaborative working with a positive attitude and at all times maintaining the highest degree of professionalism. He or she must be deadline-driven with excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects. Well-developed verbal and written communication skills are a must as the Editor will often be required to work with executives and other members of the marketing and creative media services teams. The ability to maintain composure and productivity in a fast-paced environment is critical to the success of any candidate, along with the ability to be agile, adaptive, resourceful and responsive within the fast-paced, highly dynamic realm of corporate marketing. The candidate must also be a critical thinker who is comfortable asking questions about project requirements in order to ensure that the project, when completed, meets the strategic and tactical goals and requirements established for the project by the Producer and his or her clients.

The Editor is also responsible for maintaining all backups and archived data in case of an emergency or loss. He or she will help manage the team’s media content system, be responsible for organizing the media library system, establishing the project file structure and project workflows, and will work closely with the engineering team to be the in-house expert for the production team when it comes to reformatting, compressing and transcoding media as required.

In addition to overseeing the post-production team of employees, the Editor must also be a master in the various editing tasks that the team is expected to fulfill and may need to fill in or work independently on certain segments to maintain pace. Additionally, Editors are responsible for ensuring that all of the post-production personnel are fully trained and up-to-speed on the latest industry software and hardware trends, taking a leadership role in ensuring that the proper resources are being provided to ensure the operational proficiency of the post-production process.

As the most experienced editor on the team the Editor will have the most expensive experience in all aspects of post-production including; recording and editing video, recording and editing virtual reality programming, recording and editing audio, and the design and creation of motion graphics content. The Editor is responsible for collaborating with directors, producers, creative directors and motion graphics designers to ensure a compelling narrative content across all content platforms. The Editor will also assist and advise internal and external partners on live shows, product announcements, new marketing materials, social media campaigns and other NetApp original media content.

The ideal candidate will be a lifelong learner who is passionate about staying current on the latest software and hardware tools of the industry as well as the best practices. The most successful candidate will be able to function as both Editor and Creative Director when necessary, providing eye-catching creative solutions for projects of all levels. As a consummate editorial artist, the Editor will strive to manipulate and edit video content in a way that is invisible to the audience, yet simultaneously provides a visually and aurally compelling and memorable story that is impactful and inspiring.Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create compelling narrative content across all content platforms.
  • Lead the post-production team in the editorial process, from initial setup to final product.
  • Collaborate with the creative team to brainstorm a successful creative solution and strategy.
  • Edit video footage according to an identified creative strategy and time restrictions.
  • As Video Editor, you will be responsible for overseeing the continued improvement of the post-production staff in regard to their video editing capabilities, and continued growth and learning within the company.
  • Delegate lighter editing projects to junior editors and take on complex projects yourself working collaboratively with Directors, Creative Directors, Producers and Executive Producers.
  • As required, create and edit original, short-form, mid-from and long-form video features.
  • Work closely with the Director, Creative Director and Producers to brainstorm and develop creative ideas for video and media projects.
  • Supervise the department’s daily workflow, assign project workload, and monitor deadlines and budgets.
  • As required, the Editor will frequently occupy a duel role as Editor and Creative Director for projects that may not have the budget for a complete, or extensive above the line production team.
  • Manage the creative process from concept to completion as required.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary project teams, particularly IT.
  • Collaborates with account executives to obtain knowledge of the clients’ requirements.
  • Produce fresh, innovative work that translates complex ideas into compelling digital experiences for visually sophisticated audiences.
  • Builds trust and equity with clients and internal teams alike.
  • Understands client brands and how to execute on technology and social media platforms.
  • Consistently brings creative thinking and ideas to life.
  • Oversees, reviews, and creates design deliverables on assigned projects (e.g., comps, style guides, branding and creative briefs, graphics, layouts, etc.).
  • Mentors and fosters growth in direct reports/team members.
  • Sets objectives and leads the delivery of projects or work efforts that have a direct effect on business results within a functional or operational area.
  • Mentor and encourage creative team members to foster a positive work environment.
  • Shoulder the responsibility of the quality and completion of all work projects assigned to members of the creative team.
  • Participate in and provide regular opportunities for professional development and growth to team.
  • Report progress of projects at major stages of their conception, creation, and execution.
  • Ensure designs and content reflect consistently and positively the brand image and company ideals.
  • Work with internal and external strategic partners to create products using the most current industry best practices.
  • Train and guide subordinates into accomplished professionals.
  • Monitor results of team efforts and propose actions for the future.

Requirements:

  • Direct hands-on expertise with Adobe Creative Suite, in particular, Premiere and After Effects
  • Strong Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator skills.
  • Proven track record in the delivery of high-end video projects to client specifications.
  • An artistic background with a portfolio showcasing one’s work experience is a key requirement for employment as a Editor.
  • Familiarity with Cinema 4D, 3D Studio Max or equivalent 3D package skills, including modelling, texturing and animation.
  • Experience with a variety of 3rd party motion graphic plugins (i.e Red Giant)
  • Thorough understanding of operational processes and procedures.
  • Ability to design for different mediums.
  • Agile at brainstorming, coming up with custom graphics that transmit ideas across digital platforms.
  • Strong logistical and resource planning skills.
  • Teamwork, leadership, and exceptionally good communication skills.
  • A great attitude, ability to take criticism, willingness to learn; able to absorb and apply feedback quickly with a positive outlook.
  • Ability to create high quality content from a loose or constrained brief with short deadlines.
  • The successful candidate should have a working knowledge of how marketing campaigns work and have critical thinking skills with strong design sensibilities.
  • Strong eye for design and visual storytelling.
  • Capable of handling and organizing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • An eagerness to learn and a ‘find a way’ attitude.
  • Willingness to think ‘outside the box’ and try new concepts.
  • Knowledge of the latest trends in social media creation and consumption.
  • Strong communication skills working with the client and design team.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Photography and/or video production skills a huge plus.
  • Keeping abreast of new technologies and techniques to deliver cutting edge work.
  • Confidently lead and provide direction to other artists working on their projects, inspiring them, and upholding high standards of quality and brand guideline adherence.
  • Support social media team with pop-culture driven creative video editing with exciting graphics.
  • Take on and manage additional projects as assigned.


Education & Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting, Film, Video or Music Production or Journalism plus a minimum of five years working in the film, video, audio or music production industries, or in journalism. – A degree in business communications is a plus and experience in the Advertising, Public Relations is also a plus. OR, ten years of industry experience which includes overseeing all of the post-production operations and long-term goals of a film or video production, managing multiple film or video projects simultaneously and can demonstrate a thorough understanding of the film and video production industry and related technologies; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
