Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a video and photographer creative director to support the laboratory’s mission of changing the world’s energy future. In this important role, a skilled professional will produce photos and videos that will highlight INL’s accomplishments.
As INL’s Creative Director, you will determine the objectives and approaches of all photo and video projects at INL, and create, maintain and protect INL’s visual image.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
* Function as team lead, directs projects, and supervises the work of less experienced photographers and videographers (both onsite and subcontractors).
* Photography:
+ Create impactful images using complex strobe lighting scenarios or available light in challenging situations. Subjects range from researchers in laboratories to support staff activities, VIP tours, studio and location portraiture and construction progress. 360-degree virtual tour imagery is also necessary. Multiple cameras may be required including traditional Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR), GoPro, and Ricoh 360.
* Photo editing:
+ Extensive knowledge of Adobe Photoshop to optimize imagery for color accuracy, cropping or manipulation for graphic effect. Reformatting for use in video or other applications may also be required. Once finalized, images are catalogued and maintained in a record repository.
* Videography:
+ Works in collaboration with clients for pre- and post-production activities; generates on-screen text and graphics: initiates live productions using cameras and other equipment; streams video for a variety of Internet uses and formats; uses microphones and audio mixing equipment and tweaks lighting.
+ Collaborates with clients on visual requirements of the production. Works on ideas and physical realities of production and participates in program’s visual development. Conducts field-based video production which involves interacting and collaborating with clients and operating all portable equipment; transports and sets up lighting and audio equipment as the need arises; provides troubleshooting and maintenance of field production equipment.
+ Develops content generation for INL’s social media outlets. This includes the creation of imagery and video for Youtube, Flickr, Twitter and Facebook. Helps manage INL’s Youtube page. This includes uploading videos and images; organizing content; providing HTML code for INL’s web pages; and sharing uploaded videos and photos with customers.
+ Prepares B-roll footage for external media. Plans and performs production tasks which includes acquiring footage, making editorial decisions, rough cuts, audio adjustment, color correction and final editing; utilizes computer graphics and special effects for postproduction; renders and encodes video projects for output to streaming media and internet delivery; provide concept-to-completion video production. This includes creating the initial concept for the video; script writing; video shooting; post production; and distribution.
* Manages contracts and personnel from photo and video subcontractors. Provides detailed direction to subcontract artists.
**Qualifications:**
* Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, photography or new media plus 8 years of experience in social media (Youtube, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter), video production, new media management, photography, and creative concept OR Master’s degree plus 6 years of experience.
* Knowledge of field production techniques and standards is required. Understanding of current digital photographic and video production techniques and systems required.
* Extensive experience with Adobe Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop.
* Must be an in-depth specialist and expert in the field of photography and videography.
* Must be fully knowledgeable of theory, principles and practices related to photography and videography.
