With grant funds from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), DOHMH is undertaking a new initiative that will meet critical infrastructure needs and make possible strategic investments that will have lasting effects on public health. Investments and improvements through this initiative will help modernize DOHMH’s foundational capabilities and data infrastructure, enabling it to partner in complex health and health care environments and, in turn, support better public health outcomes, including COVID-19. This initiative supports larger efforts to rebalance investments in public health and more equitably serve communities and populations. The selected candidate will be an employee of Public Health Solutions, a nonprofit organization which is the fiscal and administrative manager of the grant but will work be supervised by DOHMH. This is a grant-funded position ending in November 2027. The Office of External Affairs manages many of the agency’s most critical interactions with the public, from raising awareness and promoting healthy behaviors to advancing policies and responding to health emergencies. The Bureau of Communications, housed within the Office of External Affairs, serves as the agency’s in-house publisher and marketer of trendsetting, culturally responsive campaigns and initiatives. The Bureau also maintains the agency’s website and oversees social media outreach efforts. Job Description: The NYC Health Department has an opening for Videographer/Photographer. In this position, the videographer/photographer will take videos and photographs for live events and document key moments. In addition, the videographer/photographer will plan and execute preproduction and editing efforts for photo and video projects for various digital/social media platforms, including long-form and short-form video content to inform the public about important public health topics. This role will have a unique opportunity to set the brand tone and voice for the agency’s TikTok account. This role will report directly to Director of Digital Strategy. Duties: Attend agency events and press conferences to film video and still images Manage the shooting, production and editing of high-quality photo and video projects Create storyboards, plan, shoot and produce short video projects on important public health topics Edit photo and video projects using Adobe Creative Cloud Maintain an archive of photographs and other digital assets for agency use Work with social media editors to version content natively across platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and YouTube Qualifications : Bachelor’s degree in applicable field, i.e. Communications, Photojournalism, Film or similar. Previous experience working in fields related to videography, photography, or communications. Portfolio of demonstrated experience producing short-form video projects from concept to completion. Familiar with latest video trends online and on social media, including TikTok/vertical format. The ideal candidate for this position must be a pro-active and self-motivated individual with the ability to work in teams and in a highly dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders and timelines. Salary – $65000 – $65000 Additional Desired Qualities: Proficient with photo and video editing programs within Adobe Creative Cloud Experience using DSLR or mirrorless cameras, lighting gear, and audio equipment including lavalier and shotgun microphones Ability to create and version video projects for multiple formats (YouTube and social media) Comfortable troubleshooting any technical software issues that arise with camera, equipment etc Strong editorial judgement and understanding of how to effectively communicate stories Receptive to feedback and able to process constructive criticism and turn it around to tangible product Must have ability to work both independently and under close supervision Ability to convey complex ideas in simple, relevant manner Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills Ability to prioritize and work in fast-paced environment with hard deadlines Additional Information: This is a temporary grant-funded position ending in November 2027. This individual must reside in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) by their confirmed start date. Preference may be given to individuals residing in New York City (5 boroughs) or surrounding New York State counties. This individual will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies.
