Production Assistant Role Description: The Production Assistant at HPAC is a crucial team member responsible for managing all aspects of cinema screenings, from operating and managing projectors to coordinating film ingestion and ensuring technical excellence during screenings. Production Assistant responsibilities will span across technical support, front-of-house assistance, and additional duties as needed to ensure the smooth operation of our arts center. Estimated Hours: Friday 5pm-11pm, Saturday 1-11pm, Sunday: 11am-5pm (20 hours per week maximum) Reports to: Technical Director Responsibilities include: Projection Management: Ensure the smooth operation of cinema screenings by skillfully operating and managing the projector equipment. This includes handling setup, calibration, and troubleshooting to guarantee optimal picture and sound quality. Film Ingestion and Key Management: Take charge of the film ingestion process and manage the encryption keys securely. Your attention to detail and accuracy will be vital in safeguarding our film content. Cinema Slides and Rendering: Prepare and render cinema slides to provide relevant information and promotions before screenings. Your creativity and technical expertise will enhance the pre-show experience for our audience. Quality Control: Oversee the scheduling of Film Watchers for quality control purposes. Collaborate with the team to maintain high standards in projection and address any technical issues promptly. Screening Booking Coordination: Work closely with our booking team to ensure seamless coordination of cinema screenings. Your effective communication skills will contribute to a well-organized schedule of events. Event and Festival Support: Collaborate with the production team to set up staging, lighting, and other technical requirements for events and festivals held at HPAC. Assist in ensuring the seamless execution of performances and activities. Guest Services and Research Support: As assigned, provide assistance with guest services and research needs at HPAC. This may involve engaging with guests, answering inquiries, and helping to create a welcoming atmosphere for all visitors. Collaborative Team Player: Work closely with various teams at HPAC, including production, front-of-house, and guest services, to ensure effective communication and coordination for successful events and screenings. Flexibility and Adaptability: Be prepared to take on diverse tasks and adapt to changing demands. The role may involve occasional adjustments to accommodate the evolving needs of the arts center. Qualifications/Experience: AudioVisual live event experience. Experience in commercial projection environments or event automation systems, including Crestron Video and Audio signal processing. Knowledge of digital video codecs, container management, and Audio and Video cable standards. Proficiency in Digital Video Transcoding and creation of Cinema DCP content. Familiarity with digital video switching via a board or software program. Strong organizational skills in both physical and digital environments. Proficiency in both Windows and MacOS. Live event or production experience. The following skills are not required but are a plus: Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects). Basic I.T. networking skills, including networking, IP addressing, TCP/IP, or UDP protocols. Live event or production experience. Requirements: Associates Degree or higher in a related field or equivalent industry experience of 2+ years. Must be available to work some weekday evenings, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, totaling up to 25 hours per week. Must have reliable transportation to and from work. The ability to lift 40 pounds regularly. The ability to safely climb ladders while carrying 40 pounds. The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces. Job Type: Part-time Pay: $20.00 per hour Schedule: On call Weekends Education: Associate (Preferred) Experience: Adobe Premiere: 1 year (Preferred) Live production: 2 years (Preferred) Work Location: In person
