PRODUCTION ASSISTANT Temporary to possible perm assignment, 16 week assignment Part-time, 24-30 hours a week/ Evening Shift PC skills required (database, printing, administrative), Printing/mailroom experience is preferred Very physical and fast-paced work (lifting 40 lbs newspaper bundles) Candidate needs to be accountable for work done and open to coaching opportunities Details 2nd shift work, starting at 4pm-4:30pm and can run to 12 – 12:30AM at night. Split days off Work every holiday and eve of the holiday Work every Sunday and Every Friday We do not adjust our start times for any day side employment or school schedules. They need to work those schedules around us. Under the supervision of the Press/Mail Foreman, is expected to become competent in all aspects of the reelroom, mailroom, and plateroom operations, and other, specific duties in the pressroom. Reelroom duties include roll handling, roll preparation, paster make-up, reel stand operation, tension system settings, web leading and the sorting and weighing of waste newsprint. Mailroom duties include list preparation; ClientS programming; operation of labeling equipment, stackers, bundle strapping and wrapping machines, and conveyors. Also responsible for error bundle correction and proper dispatching of printed copies. Printing of mailing labels, bundle wraps, and run information and forms that are supplied to the transportation staff for distribution. Pressroom duties include web leading; cleaning of blankets, rollers, press parts and systems; checking, spotting, mounting, and removing plates, assist with maintenance activities. Plateroom duties include: The operation of PC-based plate imaging and press proofing software applications; punching, imaging and processing plates and verifying registration; checking plates to ensure both are free of defects as well as verifying printed copies for accuracy and quality; communicating with and monitoring pre-press communications for critical run time information and relaying information to management; operation of production information management system software (PDIMS) to record nightly run time data, such as film and plate lockup times, as well as tracking consumables; assistance with cleaning and scheduled preventative maintenance of equipment and general housekeeping. Lifting Requires lifting, standing, bending, and physical activity throughout the shift. High school diploma or equivalent required. Mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform in a team-based work environment desired. Prior press, plate, or mailroom experience would be a plus. Must be able to lift 35-50 lb boxes. PC proficiency required.
