X UNIVERSITY CASTING CALL: HOLDING ON FILM

LOGLINE:

A young woman invites her boyfriend for a guided climb to see if she can trust him again or not.

Non-paid, student film.

Shooting Location, GTA (North York)

Auditions to be held February 1st – 8th

Contact for sides.

Actors must have experience indoor rock climbing. Belaying experience is an asset.

JONI:

Mid-20s – early 30’s female

25 years old (to play older or younger). Any ethnicity/race. Joni has a tendency to go inwards when the outside world becomes challenging. She has a huge heart but doesn’t let many people in, and can seem standoffish to those that don’t know her. She is oblivious to the ways her desire to escape has injured Brad. Joni is burdened by a self-consciousness that has been amplified by her long-term boyfriend’s betrayal. She feels victimized by Brad but struggles to see beyond the old world values instilled by her parents which prioritize commitment and loyalty over all else. She must learn to see her value outside of a romantic relationship in order to free herself and her partner from further torment.

BRAD:

Mid-20s Male

25 years old (to play older or younger) Any ethnicity/race. Urban mountain man and manager of an indoor climbing gym. Used to getting what he wants. His sensitivity disarms people. Brad is comfortable in his skin. His conflict is that he feels unloved and unsupported by Joni, his first love and girlfriend of 5 years. Instead of communicating his need for closeness and emotional intimacy, Brad slept with a mutual friend last month. Joni asked him not to tell her anything about it, in order to remain in the relationship. Brad is still holding out hope she will come back to him emotionally. Joni suggests they start lead climbing together as a way to rebuild trust, and Brad jumps at the opportunity to feel close to her again.
