IndieWire – Sarah Shachat

The article features an interview with director Jeremy Workman about his 2024 documentary, “Secret Mall Apartment.”The film chronicles the true story of eight Rhode Island artists who, from 2003 to 2007, constructed and secretly lived in an apartment within the Providence Place Mall. Each fellow receives a $30,000 unrestricted grant and year-long support including mentorship, coaching, and financial guidance. The fellowship aims to empower underrepresented voices and help build sustainable, long-term careers in independent film.

In a recent Indie Film Hustle podcast episode, Danielle Raiz, a creative advocate at Wix, discusses empowering filmmakers through digital marketing and audience engagement. She emphasizes the importance of building a professional online presence and engaging with viewers early in the filmmaking process. Raiz highlights how tools like Wix enable filmmakers to control the display, monetization, and sharing of their work, marking an empowering shift in the industry.
