Summary: Professional actor to portray a role as a spooky/spectacular/weirdly wonderful character in one of our themed programming attractions.
Audition dates: September 13-15 & September 20-22; 11a-5p in Arch Hall.
This role begins in Mid-September and runs through the end of October.
Must be available for rehearsals/training starting in September.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Wear complete airbrushed makeup look.
- Transform into a frightening creature with makeup and costumes.
- Perform a scene or series of scenes in repetition to achieve top-notch reactions from guests.
- Remain in character at all times and operate a small prop.
- Put on and remove make up, masks, costumes, latex and other costuming materials as necessary.
- Clean and prepare work area for the next operating day after the attractions close for the evening.
- Keep escape routes clean.
- Possible shifts for “Trick-or-Treat Trail” wherein “treats” are given out by actors in costume to children in the park.
- Follow all museum policies and procedures to maintain a safe workplace.
- Listen to direction from attraction leadership.
- Be playful and friendly with an outgoing personality.
- Maintain knowledge of the rules and regulations of the museum (including attraction requirements such as height restrictions, weight restrictions, proper riding position, etc.)
- Perform various other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Prior haunt experience preferred but not required.

- This role requires an audition.
- Must be okay with a full face of makeup applied daily.
- Must be able to wear a costume.
- Proficient in time management.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Frequently exposed to fog/haze machines, strobe lights, black lights.
- Required to work in various weather conditions.
- Available to work overtime.
- Must work flexible hours including weekends, nights, and holidays.
- Attention to detail.
- Must be able to cooperate well with other staff.
- Must be able to handle stress.

- Must be able to walk or stand for up to eight hours a shift.
- Some positions require extensive climbing and jumping on a bungee harness.
- Requires occasional kneeling and bending.
- Requires occasional reaching above shoulder, pushing and pulling.
- Requires occasional lifts and carries up to 50 pounds.
- Requires occasional carries up to 100 pounds with the assistance of a two-wheel hand truck.
- Requires manual and bi-manual dexterity, fine and gross motor skills, eye/hand coordination, near vision, hearing, and speech.
- Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, and crouch for extended periods.
- Must be able to perform in an enclosed costumes, having limited sight lines.
- Height and weight may be required for proper fit in specific costumes.
- Possess 20/20 corrected vision. (Corrective lens, if required, must be worn while on duty).
- Possess normal or average corrected hearing. (Defined as 25 decibels or better in the frequency range of 500HZ-4000HZ considered normal speech frequency range). (If a corrective device is needed to achieve this range, it must be worn while on duty).
