Full job description

Under general supervision of the Director of the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film and Costume design faculty, the Costume Manager will manage the costume shop budget, inventories (supplies, materials, equipment, costumes, wigs, makeup) and personnel. The successful candidate will work collaboratively on all JCSTF and Nebraska Repertory Theatre productions to design costumes and execute all costume, wigs, makeup, and coordinate costume crafts. The individual will adhere to budgets identified in coordination with the Director of the School and/or production personnel. Additionally, the individual will teach two courses annually in the following areas of content: cutting/draping, flat and/or period patterning, costume construction, costume crafts, and makeup.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Master’s degree (MFA) in costume design, costume technology, or related field and at least two (2) years of costume shop supervision in an educational professional costume shop. Must demonstrate knowledge of costume construction, costume technology and crafts, costume history and design with dedication to artistic excellence, health collaboration and communication with colleagues and students. Proficient with standard costume shop equipment (industrial and standard sewing machines, sergers, blind hemmers, industrial irons, dye vat, etc.). Must be skilled in pattern draping and drafting. Ability to manage budgets, schedules, and a diverse workforce with varying skill levels. The ability to organize and execute multiple assignments under specific time constraints is essential. Excellent organizational, communication and collaborative skills are necessary. High level of professionalism, good judgement and discretion required at all times.

Preferred Qualifications

At least three (3) years of costume shop supervision and management experience. Experience with computer aided pattern drafting, period and specialty costume patterning and craft skills. Ability to develop and organize new curriculum to meet the program requirements and established goals. Teaching experience preferred.

Posted Salary $50,000/yr. minimum
