Applications are invited for the above-indicated vacancy within Newzroom Afrika. The incumbent will report to the m anager: Fleet and stores .
Job purpose
An ENG camera operator must have a steady hand and quick reflexes.
Passion for story-telling and careful attention to detail.
Meeting the story objective visually is the key deliverable for the operator.
Key responsibilities
Follow the ENG standard operating procedures as prescribed by the department management
Liaising with reporters for clear objectives and briefing to determine all aspects of
the story at hand
Ensure that all required technical equipment required for the shoot is checked,
ready and signed out for use
Ensuring that the equipment is always safeguarded under your care
Providing practical and creative input to shooting of stories and news reporting
Selecting, assembling, and positioning equipment (cameras, stands, software etc.) as layout for all shoots worked on
Test and prepare camera/s for angles or camera movements
Shoot story packages according to specified brief requirements
Capture and deliver on broadcast-quality footage
Collaborate with make-up artists, lighting and sound staff to produce the best final effect for delivery (where applicable)
Efficiently resolve technical or practical issues on shoots
Bureau ENG Operator: work efficiently on media composer software to edit packages as and when required
Skills and competencies
Matric
Proven experience as a camera operator
Up to date driver’s licence and excellent driving skills
Experience operating relevant equipment (cameras, bonding units etc.)
Excellent theoretical knowledge of filming and capturing footage
Ability to understand and follow camera scripts/briefs
Excellent communication skills
Ability to think and act quickly
A team player
Physical strength and stamina to carry heavy equipment
Excellent colour vision and hearing
Personal attributes
