- MFA or other terminal degree in Film, Media Production, or related fields
- Active filmmaking agenda with a distinguished public record of original creative works and/or comparable professional work in narrative filmmaking
- Experience in college-level teaching
- Ability to teach comprehensive undergraduate filmmaking courses
- Ability to teach upper-division fiction film production
- Ability to teach specialty courses in one of the following areas: producing, sound production, lighting, cinematography, editing
- Openness to teaching and mentoring students in an array of filmmaking styles and voices
- Ability to teach in a diverse university community and support the success of students from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to teach nonfiction production courses at the undergraduate level and in our MFA Science and Natural History Program
- Ability to teach courses in addition to the above in one or more of the following areas: producing, sound production and post-production, lighting, cinematography, editing, post-production workflows, screenwriting, virtual production techniques
- Be able to work closely with other faculty in a collegiate environment and contribute to the school’s academic mission.
- Have an appreciation of diverse constituencies and bring intellectual diversity to the department.
- Dedication to supporting and enhancing Montana State University’s diversity, equity, and inclusiveness initiative.
Faculty research interests span various creative disciplines: narrative, documentary, and experimental film production; digital, analog, and alternative process photography; film studies and critical theory; and theater production.
The College hosts the only accredited Architecture program in Montana and supports a unique, world-class graduate film program in Science and Natural History Filmmaking. Graduates from the College enjoy successful careers in art, design, media and film production, photography, architecture, education, and music as well as apply the discipline, creative problems solving skills and work ethic embedded in their programs to any career.
The College is home to the internationally recognized Montana Shakespeare in the Parks theater company and supports the Black Box Theatre and innovation and design spaces such as the Design Sandbox for Engaged Learning and the Community Design Center.
