Full-Time Faculty Appointment with Benefits
The Film Department at Ringling College of Art and Design combines the power of film as a storytelling medium with the flexibility of the latest digital technology. Filmmaking is taught employing digital tools within a range of pre-production, production and post-production courses. Students learn the theoretical, aesthetic and practical aspects of the field in an environment that puts the story at the center of the filmmaking process. Successful candidates should be passionate about teaching courses in a collaborative environment.
The Film Department at the Ringling College of Art and Design is seeking qualified candidates who are broadly trained filmmakers with the ability to teach film production courses on an introductory and advanced level, and foundational skill courses such as Producing or Editing.
Included among the Duties and Responsibilities of this position are: ability to teach Producing, Editing for Film, Film Language, Introduction to Filmmaking, Junior Film Production, Senior Thesis Production, Brand Storytelling, and Business of Branded Entertainment when needed.
This is a full-time appointment with benefits. The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date is August 2024. The teaching responsibility is three courses or nine credits per semester. The College has a supportive, collegial faculty, a curriculum that strongly values excellence and a robust support system dedicated to using the most current technology. Ongoing commitment to creative work/scholarship in the profession is expected and active participation with faculty, department and college service is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Include evidence of:
  • A Master’s degree in film/television production or related field, with a strong record of professional achievement in the field, OR a 4-year professional degree and a record of professional achievement in the field.
  • An extensive background in production and/or post-production in the film and/or television industry.
  • Skill in at least two of the following disciplines: editing, sound, producing, directing, cinematography, production design, or screenwriting.
  • An ability to clearly communicate and work effectively in a collaborative educational environment with faculty, students and administrators.

Preferred Qualifications

Include evidence of:
  • An MFA or other terminal degree in an appropriate field
  • Film school teaching experience.
  • Awareness of both current and evolving issues facing the field of film production and strategies to best address them.
  • A broad range of professional experiences, including any of the following: producing, editing, directing, cinematography, production design, post-production.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with Avid.
  • Knowledge of production and post-production digital workflow processes.
  • Significant professional practice and work experience.
