Logline: June is a story that takes place after the death of Paul’s brother and June’s best friend, Joey. On a trip home to the Sierra Nevadas to spread Joey’s ashes, Paul and June revisit his favorite places, exploring how these spaces and their own relationship has changed since his passing.
Paul: LEAD. 21- 25 years old; all ethnicities; man. Attractive, free spirit, warm, adventurous. He has a childlike freedom and largely lives in the moment.
Paul has recently lost his brother and is on a trip home to spread his ashes, accompanied by his childhood friend June (who he has always quietly loved). With the weight of his brother’s death, Paul’s sense of urgency to seize life is only enhanced, and he finds himself yearning at the love he has for June somewhat impatiently. As a result, Paul finds himself at a challenging threshold, navigating both the suffering of death and the ultimate joy that love can provide.
June: LEAD. 21-25 years old; all ethnicities; woman. Stoic, adventurous, strong-willed, prudent. June is someone who is sensible, but also a lot of fun to be around.
June recently has lost her childhood best friend (Joey) and is on a trip home with his brother, Paul. June quietly grieves the loss of Joey, hiding her emotions from Paul. Additionally, we privately see an old comfort and curiosity she has in His sense of freedom. Paul pulls out the goofiness in her, and although at times she can seem a bit distant and unengaged, she always shows her love in her actions. Paul’s active spirit versus her passiveness allow for an interesting unspoken tension between them. With the weight of Joey’s death, June reconnects to old childhood memories, finding a place to honor the past and patiently embrace a new stage of her life.
