VFX Designer in LA

ISO VFX designer PAID DOE Seeking a creative and driven VFX professional to take the lead on creating a cohesive visual effects design for an independent feature film. You will create an initial treatment and lookbook of the film’s visual effects, building off the existing temp VFX, to make a cohesive style that supports the character arcs and themes of gamification, video games, and social media. You will then work with the director to create a shot-by-shot spotting, and oversee creation of the VFX.

You should be familiar enough with a broad variety of video game aesthetics and gameplay and be able to reference them, and have a thorough knowledge of visual effects, with experience in design, compositing, directing, supervising, or similar.

“Dared My Best Friend to Ruin My Life” is an independent low-budget film that explores the post-truth era, deepfakes, and misinformation, in a world where the characters can’t tell what is real. The visuals of the film reflect the characters treating their conflict like a video game, and the ultimate merging of social media and games. The film’s looks span a shifting lens of video games and social media, as if the viewer is swiping through TikTok and playing Fortnite or Minecraft, with pixel art, instagram stickers, AR overlays, and creative, Scott Pilgrim-style transitions.

Local to Los Angeles preferred for occasional in-person collaboration sessions, and we will happily consider remote applicants as well. Starts ASAP, part-time, rate DOE.
