In-depth Character Breakdown:
Niki – FEMALE – Early 20’s. Any ethnicity.
A complex, troubled and nuanced character. She appears to struggle with a dependence on alcohol at the beginning of the film. Her goal throughout the film is not to ascertain whether or not Jonathan is still in love with her. In fact, she seems to plainly and obliviously ignore his red flags. We’re quickly made to realize that Jonathan, at the end of the day, performs his role in her life just like the alcohol she consumes. A distraction from her own thoughts.
Jonathan – MALE – Early to mid 20’s. Any ethnicity.
A character whose own addiction is his own ego. Throughout his conversations with Niki, the audience should feel that there’s a certain power dynamic at play. While she’s hesitant in the beginning, he is playful. His words are caring and affection, but it is in his actions that his true goal shows.
